Intel finally figured it out

Anyone who has used a computer should know that Windows compatibility is so good that people can hardly find incompatible software.
Even the new Windows 11 system can still run Office 95 27 years ago without pressure.
This extreme compatibility is partly thanks to Microsoft, and on the other hand, Intel's x86 processor architecture is truly...
It's too stable!
Even with this year's new Intel i3, i5, and i7, they are still highly compatible with the instruction set of the 1987 x86 pioneer, the 8086 processor.
Although many new instruction sets were added later for new hardware features, the old instruction set was firmly not deleted.
What stands out is that it is of the same lineage and origin...
But it seems that after sticking to it for almost half a century, Intel has finally decided to give it a blow...
It is likely that the ARM processor of Guozi has given Intel a great shock. A few days ago, Intel released a white paper titled "Conceptualizing a Simplified Intel Architecture".
It officially announced the new architecture of Intel's future processors - x86S.
As the name suggests, this new architecture still shares the same origin as the existing x86.
However, Intel has cut down a bunch of old features and simplified them.
The core point is that it only retains 64 bit mode and completely eliminates support for 16 bit and 32 bit modes.
It should be noted that if a 64 bit processor wants to natively support old 32-bit programs, the cost is still considerable.
For example, in Snapdragon 8Gen2, the 32-bit A710 core needs to be compatible, which reduces energy consumption by 20% compared to the A715 core without compatibility.
